Tairi Oviri - Swing Spiral

Swinging side to side moving into a spiral motion

  • Must pivot on one foot

  • One foot must be on toe and other on heel

  • Either descend or ascend swinging side to sideas if moving into a spiral motion

  • Ensure to swing side to side without moving shoulders

Ovi - Snake

= Moving hips in a snake like motion (shakira move)

  • Isolate hips from rest of body

Porotaka - Roll

= Body Roll

  • Remember begin with ura stance

  • Keep feet together

  • Must bend knees then extend leg you are swinging on

  • One must create a full inward circle on side of hip you are swinging on

  • Swing until your hip almost reaches/touches ribs

KUPITI DEMO

Kupiti (also known as pia or box)

=  Swinging in a cubic/4 square motion

  • Begin with ura stance​​

  • Bare in mind to not push pelvis forward

  • Must focus on weight shift in feet and legs

  • Feet must be close together

  • When swinging keep shoulders straight and one side 

    • STEP 1 CLOCKWISE Hit bottom left bending both knees left foot flat as main support and right foot on toe as minor support

    • STEP 2  Hit top left straightening left leg with left foot flat as main support and right knee bent with right foot on toe as minor support

    • STEP 3 Swing across to right and shift weight onto right foot. Right foot should be flat with right leg straight, left foot should be on toe with left knee bent

    • STEP 4 Hit bottom right bending both knees with right foot flat and left foot on toe

    • STEP 5 Swing low from right to left creating a 4 square motion and repeat process

    • STEP 1 ANTI CLOCKWISE Hit bottom right bending both knees left foot flat as main support and left foot on toe as minor support

    • STEP 2  Hit top right straightening right leg with right foot flat as main support and left knee bent with left foot on toe as minor support

    • STEP 3 Swing across to left and shift weight onto left foot. Left foot should be flat with left leg straight, right foot should be on toe with right knee bent

    • STEP 4 Hit bottom left bending both knees with lef foot flat and right foot on toe

    • STEP 5 Swing low from left to right creating a 4 square motion and repeat process
